Ardagh Group agrees to sell its Trivium stake to Silgan and AIP

What happened
Ardagh Group, a minority joint venture partner in Trivium Packaging, has agreed to sell its roughly 42% stake in the metal packaging maker to Silgan Holdings and funds affiliated with American Industrial Partners (AIP). Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan is selling its majority stake to the same buyers. Ardagh says the transaction values Trivium at approximately $3.4 billion.
Trivium makes metal cans and aerosol containers for food, seafood, pet food and nutrition, beauty and personal care customers, and recorded revenues of $3 billion in 2025. The sale is expected to close in mid-2027, subject to regulatory approvals, works council consultations and other customary closing conditions. Ardagh expects net cash proceeds of approximately $90 million.
